London Musici - About Us

The chamber orchestra London Musici founded by Mark Stephenson in 1988 has celebrated its 20th Anniversary 2008/09 with two major collaborations: CHAOS POINT, A Performance Art Catwalk Show with Vivienne Westwood and Eternal Light – A Requiem, a choral – orchestral commission from composer Howard Goodall, released as a recording by EMI with the choir of Christchurch Cathedral, Oxford.  Eternal Light has toured as a ballet with Rambert Dance Company, choreographed by Mark Baldwin with set and costume design by Michael Howells, in over 80 performances with choirs across the UK.

London Musici has given over 1000 performances as Rambert’s Associate Orchestra since 1994. It has recorded over 15 albums for EMI, Conifer Classics (now Sony BMG), Campion, Silva Classics, Classic FM and JVC (Japan).

The orchestra has been distinctive in its programming, notably its critically acclaimed Music, Song & Dance concerts (1995) at St John’s, Smith Square and The London Coliseum; its Rehearse-Perform-Record series at The Queen Elizabeth Hall and St Martin-in-the fields; its award winning Miracles Project at The Royal Albert Hall (1997) which was filmed by LWT and its Musici Nights concerts at Cadogan Hall and Goldsmith’s Hall (2004/5) with soloists Angelika Kirchschlager, Eduard Kunz, Priya Mitchell, Charles Siem, Valery Sokolov, and Patricia Rosario.

The orchestra has won numerous awards for its work in education and for building new audiences including Londoners of The Year (1988); Creative Britons (2000) and a Time Out Outstanding Achievement Award (2004).
